This one’s called “Get Dumber”. Our friend Jeff Rosenstock sings on it. Have you heard of him??? He good. Nestor + Zack made the music video and it’s one of the most annoying things I’ve ever seen. When they sent me the first cut I choked on my drink laughing. A true cinematic masterpiece. Great work everybody!!!

I wrote “Get Dumber” in Jeff’s basement, on his guitar. I was house-sitting for him while he was on tour, and I recorded the demo one afternoon after drinking 30 coffees and accidentally destroying his wife’s espresso machine (sorry Christine). The ghost of Jeff is all over the demo, so it felt like he should be on the album version too.

On the album version, Jeff and I recorded vocals together in the same room, facing one another. It was a fun way to track vocals, but it also meant we both had to nail the same take for it to work. My favourite part of this song is in the middle of the second verse Jeff forgets the lyrics and just yells AHHHH LYRICS? We kept the take. It’s fucking funny and the song’s called Get Dumber, and honestly the lyrics he missed kinda sucked anyway.

WE’RE GOING ON TOUR W/ JEFF + EKKO ASTRAL THIS FALL

This is the first time we’ve toured with Jeff since 2015, where everything went wrong and PUP almost decided to not be a band anymore. Here’s a list of some of the things that happened on that tour:

• Jeff’s van broke down. Twice.

• I fell face first into a pile of cactuses while I was hiking with Jeff and my face and hands swelled up to gigantic proportions (I’ll tell that full story another time…)

• Our sold out Denver show got cancelled because a blizzard stranded all the bands in Wyoming, and while we were stranded Steve ate a weird gas station sandwich and got food poisoning and was spewing out of both ends. Oh, and, we were all in the same hotel room for that, so that’s fun

• All of Jeff’s gear got stolen. That was a really bad day.

• We cancelled the last week of shows because I hemmhoraged my vocal cords, and then we wrote an album called “The Dream Is Over” about how that tour ruined our lives

We haven’t toured with Jeff since. But we spent almost every New Years together. We played “Waiting” together on Late Night with Seth Meyers (it was really sick, way better than when we played “Kids” on the same show alone and completely shit the bed on national television…). I lived at Jeff’s house for a bit (where I wrote “Get Dumber”, remember?). Zack played shows in Jeff’s band when Kevin couldn’t make it. We sang gang vocals on Jeff’s last record. Jeff sang gang vocals on our last record.

All this is just to say, that our paths have been very intertwined and you know what, we’re excited to tour together again and this time it will be good and not bad. This also isn’t gonna happen for another decade so if you wanna see us and Jeff and Ekko Astral, this is your chance. The tour is called A Cataclysmic Rapture of Friendshipness. It is a perfect title.

There will be a limited number of low-income priced tickets available at the venue box office of the show each night of this tour. They’ll be $20 per ticket. Times are rough and these tickets are specifically for people who wouldn’t be able to attend otherwise. AUSTRALIA + NEW ZEALAND SHOWS

ALSO We’re finally going back to Australia this August (including Western Australia where we haven’t been since 2015), and playing in New Zealand for the first time ever. Very excited!!! Australia is one of my favourite places to play in the world. Full of freaks. I saw a guy drink his friends piss in Tasmania one time (don’t do that at our show please). I’m also never chugging another beer out of a stranger’s shoe again. Once was enough. God I love touring.
