Here’s a track off the new record called “Hallways”. We made a video for it with Sterling Larose, a director we’ve admired for a long long time. He crushed it.

ABOUT “HALLWAYS”

“Hallways” is the first thing I wrote for this record - at least lyrically.

The very same week that we announced our previous album (unintentionally, but aptly titled The Unraveling of PUPTHEBAND), my entire life unexpectedly imploded. As word of that record circulated online, I sat on my floor, the only place I could bear to be that wasn’t my bed, and started writing again for the first time in months. On that page are all the lyrics to “Hallways”. And at the very top, “who will look after the dog?”. It was January 2022, and without realizing it we had already started writing the followup to a record that hadn’t even been released yet.

The title is probably one of the more devastating lyrics on the record, but also holy shit kinda overdramatic. That’s what makes it funny to us. I don’t know if anyone else thinks it’s funny, but sometimes you gotta laugh at yourself. It’s the only way out of the abyss. Trust me.

To us, this record is more spiritually similar to our first LP than anything we’ve done since. It’s raw. It’s messy. It’s fun. Lots of mistakes. It sounds like the four of us in a room, figuring it out again. It sounds real because it is. It was produced by John Congleton, a hero to all of us, and a funny fucking guy with a messed up sense of humour (even by our standards). Thanks, John, for treating these songs most often with the care they required, and occasionally with the ham-fisted recklessness they deserved. You’re a legend and we love you (you too Sean).
